Help with connecting date table with data for matrix on start of month

Hello - I am new to Power BI and I am trying to connect my data tables to a custom date table I made. The end result is that I want to be able to create a matrix view with "start of month" and the value of "Count Completed" (a measure I created in the "actionItemActivityLogs" table) but every time I put the two on the matrix, the start of month rows collapse. I tried this with all my data and can't seem to get it to work. How should I create the relationships and am I doing something wrong with my measures? Is it an issue that my dimension tables are datetime and my calendar is not? Your help is greatly appreciated. I've attached my workbook (this is dummy data) in this doc.
