I have a report with a dataset in a "new" workspace. Most data sources are direct query, but one is import (doesn't return a lot of data, <5000 records.) I setup an hourly dataset refresh from 6am - 12pm daily, as I want the data in the import table to be as fresh as possible in that timeframe. The query takes longer than desired, which is why I'm not using DirectQuery.
I started getting error reports stating the dataset has failed to refresh.
Failure details: Memory error: The memory used for the current operation exceeds the memory limit for the workload group ''. Memory error: The memory used for the current operation exceeds the memory limit for the workload group ''.
What does this mean and how can I fix? Would fewer refreshes help? I'm pretty confident we're not anywhere near the max storage, but I don't understand the memory. I can refresh the dataset fine in Desktop. Is there a timeout limit? I noticed this error came when it took 20 minutes to refresh.
Hi @Anonymous
Could you succeed to refresh the pbix file in desktop? What capacity are you working on, shared capacity or premium capacity?
If you are on Premium, you can custom the workload .
Premiun: What is Power BI Premium?
You can refer to the blog to optmize your data model for better performance.

And this issue is the same as yours, I hope this may help you.

@Anonymous Could have to do with the complexity of the data transformations. Are you on Premium or shared capacity? Also could be an issue with the Service. You could check the Issues forum here:

And if it is not there, then you could post it.
