We currently have a dataset that comes from Solver. We then have reports that have been built off of a live connection to this dataset. However, when we added columns in Solver, they showed up in the dataset but not in any reports that had already been built. Does this mean to get these additional columns we would need to recreate these reports off the refreshed dataset? This seems like a flaw in PowerBI.
Hi, @Anonymous
Do you make the report on the desktop or directly on the service? When you refresh the dataset, new columns will be automatically added, then you refresh the report, it should be automatically updated, You don't need to recreate the report.
If it doesn’t solve your problem, please feel free to ask me.

Sorry to hear that 🙂 Teams has a fine way of messing everything up.
how are you sharing your content? Did you give the report users workspace access?
Yes, they have workspace access. I believe the workspace was create through microsoft teams but then access was granted to others on the the specific reports that were created.
no, I mean re-publishing. In Power BI Desktop you click "Publish" to push the data AND the meta data to the workspace. (you can use ALM Toolkit to be more granular). Then in the workspace you push "Update App" to transfer the meta data changes from the "staging" environment (workspace) to the "production" environment (the app).
So maybe this is our disconnect. I don't think we ever set up our workspace as an App. Is this necessary to do for updates like this? We have a workspace but we have never hit the "create app" button before.
This is by design. Any change in meta data (like adding columns in the data source) requires a re-publishing of the reports that connect to that data source.
Just to clarify by republishing you mean recreating. Whether that be copying to a new report or physically recreating all graphics?
