Switching data sources

Hi guys,

I'm sure there are different ways of doing this - I wanted to ask you guys what would be the most efficient/correct way in order to minimize rework.

I have a dataset which comes from an Azure db. I do some shaping and filtering with that data, creating different queries and intermediate tables. After that, I've built a few reports using those tables.

Now, I've recently had to change my data source to a different Azure db (all the structure remains the same). How can I do this in PowerBI without having to make the dashboards and shaping again?

Thanks!

Re: Switching data sources

Easiest way is to use the Advanced Editor in the Query Editor and just edit the Source line to point to the new DB. Would have to see your source line to tell you specifically.

In the future, consider using parameters to parameterize the server name/db name.

Re: Switching data sources

Seems straighforward enough. My source line looks pretty simple Source = Sql.Database("MyAddress"). It seems that all I have to do is replace the Source line with the new DB for all queries.

I will look into the usage of parameters. Thanks for the help!
