Connecting to Excel on Sharepoint - getting browser error

I'm trying to import a small Excel workbook that's in a Sharepoint directory. This used to work, but I'm taking it over from someone and now that I'm trying to update everything, the connection will not work.

I've tried multiple ways to get to it. When I try connection type "Excel Workbook" and put in the Sharepoint URL of the file, I get the following error:

It's time to upgrade your browser

SharePoint and OneDrive use new browser technology and work best in the latest browsers.

I've also tried using the "Web" connector with the same results. I don't see this problem anywhere when I search. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

One trick I uses is to connect the sharepoint shortcut to onedrive:

This lets you find and connect to the sheet you want through your file explorer.

Later change the file name in the data source settings to the url to pull from sharepoint.

Use the %20 where spaces are in thr file folder names are.

Hi @hellomark

Not sure if you get the correct URL for the file. A method to get the URL is via selecting the file, going to Details > More Details > Path. Click the copy icon to copy the file path then use the Web connector to connect to it. This will work.

In addition, which version of Power BI Desktop are you using? If you still have problem with above method, please update your Power BI Desktop to the latest version then try it again. Let us know if you still have questions.
