total sales per customer

I would like to create a custom column to calculate total sales per customer. Does anyone have a formula for that?

Hi, @jack1e

You can try the following methods.

Sample data:

You can use calculated columns in Desktop, a very simple formula.

Column =
CALCULATE (
    SUM ( 'Table'[Sales] ),
    FILTER ( 'Table', [Customer] = EARLIER ( 'Table'[Customer] ) )
)

If you want to solve it in Power Query, you can try the following methods.

= Table.Group(#"Changed Type", {"customer"}, {{"Sum", each List.Sum([Sales]), type nullable number}})

Is this the result you expect?

Hi @jack1e

As @Greg_Deckler mentioned, not sufficient information to understand the requirement, please follow steps to get answer quickly.

You mentioned Custom Column and may be you are trying in Power Query aggregate total sales by customer. If correct, please follow the instruction to use GROUP BY feature to get Totol Sales by customer
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-query/group-by

@jack1e Sorry, having trouble following, can you post sample data as text and expected output?
Not really enough information to go on, please first check if your issue is a common issue listed here: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Blog/Before-You-Post-Read-This/ba-p/1116882

Also, please see this post regarding How to Get Your Question Answered Quickly: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Community-Blog/How-to-Get-Your-Question-Answered-Quickly/ba-p/38490

The most important parts are:
1. Sample data as text, use the table tool in the editing bar
2. Expected output from sample data
3. Explanation in words of how to get from 1. to 2.
