show a single live value

 Hi together,

I'am new at Power Bi. I want to show one single value, from my database, which represents the measurement of a sensor. The value is updated every second. I just want to show the value with nothing around.

How can I do that?

Hi @Anonymous ,

There are two connection modes that can get live value: Direct Query and Connect live. It depends on which database you have connected.

If your database is like SQL server, you can use Direct Query mode to connect. If your database is a SSAS Tabular, you can use Connect Live to connect. Please note that, when using Connect Live mode, the modeling is limited in power bi desktop.

You can refer these articles about Direct Quert and Live Connect:

  1. Use DirectQuery in Power BI Desktop
  2. Power BI connectivity modes
  3. DirectQuery, Live Connection or Import Data? Tough Decision!

In addtion, here is a table that shows the data sources that Power BI supports for datasets:

You can refer this microsoft document for more details about power bi supported data source: Power BI data sources

Hi @Anonymous

Welcome to Power BI!

What you are looking for is absolutely possible.

Have you read much about live dashboards? https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-real-time-streaming

It depends on how you connect to the database, and you will need to have some gateway and security setup so that the Power BI service can access the real-time data in the database and update the dashboard live.

The information you have provided is not making the problem clear to me. Can you please explain with an example.

Appreciate your Kudos.

@Anonymous

You have to use the DirectQuery method for connecting the database.

Then you have to write a DAX measure to calculate the measurement of sensor value.

You can use the card visual to represent this data. Next step, publish this report to the workspace and pin this visual to the dashboard. You can see live data there.
