problem with importing excel sheet with direct query

why do i receive an error everytime i try to import an excel file to power bi desktop using direct query ?Screenshot 2024-05-03 123536.png

Hi @maramm ,

After testing, I'm guessing that by importing excel you should mean importing from here, right?

But importing excel from here requires your excel file to contain at least one of the following:

Import Excel workbooks into Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

This requires you to perform a query or other related operation in Power Query in your excel before Power BI Desktop has content to import.

If you just want to import data from excel into Power BI Desktop, then select the Excel workbook in Get Data.

Also, connecting to excel in Power BI Desktop is only supported in import mode, but you mentioned Direct Query in the title, may I ask if you have done anything else? Because during my testing I was not able to connect to excel through Direct Query.
