Why doesn't PBI allow mixed DIRECTQUERY and Load data from, excel. My boss won't believe me.

I don't care if its technical and way over his head. We have a great Database guy who can load the excel into the warehouse. I think it's my bosses boss who keeps pushing this topic.

you could use composite models in Power BI, see this document as below:
