Using OData Feed : Azure DevOps Analytics: URL working in browser but not in PowerBI

I am trying to connect to DevOps Analytics using OData Feed Data source from Power BI desktop.

It gives me below error :

ssssssssss.JPG

I think its related to some kind of configuration / permission in project or user configuration. Not sure what is the correct configuration.

If I try this URL in browser, it give me json reply back which is correct.

From Power BI only it sends me error back.

note:

I am logged in with OrgA credentials on PowerBI, and if I try to connected OrgA projects it works fine.

But If I try to connect to OrgB project while logged in with OrgA, it wont work.

I also made sure that Analytics View is enabled for organization level.

I am trying to follow the exercise from this Article but using my own project to pull data from Azure DevOps Analytics.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/report/powerbi/odataquery-connect?view=azure-devops#pr...

Your help is appreciated. Thanks

I found that Organization that I was trying needed to be part of Active directory in order to use its organizational account to pull data.

My org is not part of AD. so I used below link to create personal accesstoken to login and pull data.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/devops/report/powerbi/client-authentication-options?view=azur...

Thanks all for your help/

Hi @Anonymous ,

Maybe a temporary problem? Look at that?

https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/problem/667985/cannot-authenticate-to-the-analytics-service.html

Does the OrgA account have access rights to OrgB?
Do you have an OrgB account that you can use to access the OrgB project?

Hello @mwegener ,

OrgA account does not have acess right to OrgB.

Actually they are both separate organizations but I am using it to just pull the data to setup my OData query and testing.

I am owner role for OrgB project and have account for OrgB project.

For OrgB project, I made sure Analytics View is enabled, can be accessed in Browser, OData URL gives Json reply  with data back in browser.

one more thing, If I choose Azure DevOps(Beta) connector from Data source options in PowerBI (instead of ODataFeeds), it works fine and pulls the data. Just giving problems when using ODataFeeds

OrgA works just fine.

Hi @Anonymous ,

What type of authentication (or which account) do you use in the browser?

So basically when I open the URL in browser it prompts me to put credentials for that project account as shown below.

Upon login into account, it shows json reply.

btw, I am sending you my Odata URL in private message to you if you wanna paste that in browser

Thanks for your time and helping me.

Hi @Anonymous

I am getting the same error.
I think there is a bug in the WWW-Authentication header of the OData Feed Service from DevOps Analytics.

yeah that could be a bug but when I use organization name and Team project name for Organization B, it works in Power BI. it asks for credentials for OrgB and then pull the data.

as you know here is Odata URL, not sure if this URL needs to be modified except parameters.

https://analytics.dev.azure.com/{organization}/{project}/_odata/v3.0-preview/WorkItems? $select=WorkItemId,Title,WorkItemType,State,CreatedDate &$filter=startswith(Area/AreaPath,'{area path}') &$orderby=CreatedDate desc &$top=10

what do you suggest I should do now? 🙂

Hi @Anonymous,

I'm unfortunately not familiar with Azure DevOps Analytics.

But I thought you couldn't get Organaton B's data into Power BI at all.

oh I made a typo there. I meant it works when quering from a browser.

when I use organization name and Team project name for Organization B, it works in Browser only. it asks for credentials for OrgB and then pull the data.

It throws the error when tried with same URL in powerBI

Thanks for your time on this. I am reporting it as problem on DevOps community portal for devs.
