I am having trouble importing a SSAS model in Desktop. The import evaluates the model, jumps to 4096 rows queried then hangs for a while. Eventually it resumes but at very slow query rate of 5-6 rows/sec. I have found previous posts mentioning the same conflict but found no resolution to this. Is there any update? I have checked importing or updating relationships in the data load settings as a potential fix with no results.
We have a need in the business for both SSAS live connection and import. The live connection will be the main report because it limits what report readers and authors can change while we want to empower our power user writers with the ability to import the data model to make any report changes they desire i.e add calculated columns, add additional data sources, etc.
I have looked at addressing this issue with Power BI Dataflows however our data resides in SSAS and currently Dataflows do not support importing from SSAS successfully.
Thank you!
Hi,
We are having the very same issue. While Live connection to an Azure Analysis Services model works fine in Power BI, Importing the model from AAS to PBI performs very slowly and eventually fails especially when importing more than one table.
What is the point of AAS if it cannot be used nicely with Power BI ?!
Live connection is not a good option since there are limits for our users to create new columns or import new datasets.
Limits which may be addressed in Aug 2020:
Hi @Anonymous
Azure analysis Services instead of SQL Server Analysis Services connector is supported in dataflow.
Thank you, however, I am curious about the reason my SSAS import model method is performing so poorly. Is this method no longer in favor for Power BI?
The ability for our writers to add data sources/columns is critical which forces us to import over connect live.
