PowerBI web changes don't appear on PowerBI desktop

Hi all,

I am missing some basic functionality in PowerBI and I am starting to get really frustrated.

I was working on PowerBI desktop and publish and I see the results on PowerBI web. Then if I make changes in PowerBI web on the same report I don't see these changes in the PowerBI desktop? so now I have to re-do them?

The pbix file is stored directly on OneDrive if that matters..

I don't undesrand how can a product be so badly planned..

Thanks

So now if I publish from PowerBI desktop it will just replace the web version and all my work is gone?

Please tell me I am missing something. I don't believe that someone could make such a thing inentional..

Hi @bonny666 ,

Although you make a log in to PBI in desktop version to make the publish of reports both areas are not connected.

The files for desktop version are not sincronized with the publish ones in the web service, meaning that changes made to desktop version will not be updated until publish, and changes in the web version will not have repercussion on the desktop files.

Summarizing this does not work as a onedrive spreadsheet or word document, because you cannot refer to the PBIX files saved on the webservice.

One way to overpass this is to only make changes on the desktop version, or if you want to have changes made also in the web you need to use the download report (.pbix) and then saved it over the local file.

As you refer if you publish the same report from desktop version to web this is the version that prevails, the only thing that is asked is if you want to replace the database, and even databases are changed if for example you have one file that is linked to an excel spreadsheet and you redo it to a onedrive file datasets will be changed.
