Oracle.DataAccess.Client installed but PowerBI says Otherwise

All,

I installed the x64 bit DataAccess Client for oracle. I followed the ReadMe included with the install.

1) I extracted the install to a stage directory.

2) I ran CMD as admin.

3) I did install.bat all c:\oracle. I see the files that were placed in the directory.

4) I restarted my machine after.

What am I missing? Everytime I attempt to create an Oracle database connection Power BI continues to tell me that I dont have the Oracle.DataAccess.Client provider installed when I clearly do.

Thanks.

Let me say first, I'm using this on a client machine and not server. Now, I used the ODAC version with the universal installer:

And followed this guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClBQ3_p7T_A with a little twist.

Midway installation there is an option that Microsoft documentation notes that needs to be enable:

So you do that!!!

The video is pretty useful, just that tiny detail that was left out.

Hi @cshepler ,

In order to connect to an Oracle database with Power BI Desktop, the correct Oracle client software must be installed on the computer running Power BI Desktop. Which Oracle client software you use depends on which version of Power BI Desktop you have installed - the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version, see more details: Connect to an Oracle database.

Best Regards,

Amy

I followed that guide specifically in my initial explination.

Hi @cshepler

the problem is difficult to solve without system access.

I think you need a local Power BI consultant.
