My Scheduled Data Refresh is failing (ODBC connection with firebird)

I have installed on premises gateway & its up and running but still the refresh gets failed after long 2 hrs of wait.

The error is like "Before the data import for finished, its data source timed out. Double-check whether that data source can process import queries, and if it can, try again."

Bascially scheduled refresh is not working, is there any other way out.

I am getting my data from Firebird through ODBC connection

Hi @Anonymous ,

For Desktop, there's no schedule refresh, you should always refresh it manually or once you reopen the pbix.  it will automaticallly refresh.

You can use Performance Analyzer to examine report element performance. If the data model is very complex or the size of dataset is very large, it will cause timeout error, so please try to optimize the data model and reduce the size of dataset, make it as small as possible by removing unwanted columns. Also make sure that you are using a Star Schema. And finally make sure that your measures are as fast as possible.

For Service, if the above steps have been down and refresh fine in Desktop, but still cann't refresh in Service, you should take a look at the error message, check the status of the gateway and the credential of the data source. Here's more information about troubleshooting the gateway and refresh:

Refresh is succesfull but taking almost 90 mins.

Hi @Anonymous ,

There are several reasons why the report refresh so slow.

1.There's insufficient available memory or CPU.

2.Poorly designed report, too much visuals in the report, or the DAX are too much and complex.

3.Dataset size and complexity.

You can monitor report performance in Power BI Desktop using the Performance Analyzer, and monitor performance of content deployed into your organization's Power BI Premium capacity with the help of the Power BI Premium Metrics app. You can also use SQL Server Profiler to identify queries that are slow.

Hi Amit

Thanks for your revert, refresh is successful but taking minimum 1 hour time and too I have to do it manually.

How to synchronise my "Transactional DB which is in firebird" with my PowerBI desktop or PowerBI service automatically. I refresh my desktop reports than I have to publish it to see the updates. Definetly I am doing something wrong. Please advise

Thanks

Yogesh
