How to display subtotals in a matrix?

Can someone please explain me again how I can have subtotals in a matrix?

Hi @webportal ,

The accurate total from the underlying data, and a simple addition of the visible values, do not equate. This is a common pattern when the value you’re summing is on the ‘one’ side of a one-to-many relationship.

When you look at totals and subtotals, remember that those values are based on the underlying data. They aren't solely based on the visible values.

You can turn subtotals on or off in matrix visuals, for both rows and columns. When you turn on Subtotals and add a label, Power BI also adds a row, and the same label, for the grand total value. To format your grand total, select the format option for Grand total.

When you add a Matrix visual, it defaults to a stepped value, putting the subtotals next to the first row,

If you prefer the totals at the bottom, select the formatting pane for the visual, scroll down to the Subtotals section, and looks for “Row subtotal position” and change it to “bottom.”

If you don’t like the stepped format where the months are indented a bit, you can turn your matrix into more of a table format turning Stepped Layout off. Go to the Rows Headers section, and turn Stepped Layout off. Note that when you do this, it will automatically change the Subtotals/Row subtotal position setting to Bottom. You can change it back to top if desired.

It makes absolutely no difference wether per-row level is on or off.

@webportal , see like you are already there in the section. Switch off per row-level and check
