How to avoid Line Chart doing unwanted aggregation?

Hi Everybody,

I took a Power BI online course, but I think I still need help to understand how this basic thing should work. In Power BI Desktop reports, when using the Line Chart visual to display a simple dataset with x/y values, the visual always apply some aggregation (such as sum, count, ..) to the y values, which is not what I want. I only want it to simply plot the x-y values without any aggregation, but don't know how to do that.

Below is an example.

1. First of all I have a table recording the adjusted annual GDP of a country for the beginning of each quarter. I want to use the Record Date for X, and Record Value for Y.

2. After creating the Line Chart visual, I drag-and-drop the table fields to the visual like the screenshot below. Notice that the Y-axis field automatically becomes "Count of", and the chart shows a straight line.

3. When I attempted to remove the "Count" operation, I found that it doesn't give me that option. I need to chose one of the aggregation methods.

4. I selected the "Record Value" field from the "Data" panel, and made sure there is no summerization from the ribbon at the top, but it doesn't help.

Can you tell me how I can remove the automatically added summerization/aggregation?

Thank you!

Sui

Hi Everybody,

I think I understand how it works now. I just need to use the "Sum" aggregation, because every date only has one value in the table, and the sum of one value is itself.
