Hi,
I'm using the Power Apps visual for Power BI. I have Dev, Test, UAT/Staging and Production Environments setup for both apps and BI.
Can anyone shed light on how to create a parameterised PBIT file that can change the Power Apps environment in step with the Report itself?
Ideally I'd like:
File | mydash.pbit | |||
Env (PBI) | Dev | Test | Staging | Prod |
Env (PowerApps) | Dev | Test | Staging | Prod |
Where mydash.pbit is the single file.
Hi,
Did you get anywhere with this in the last few years, @JordanImran? I have just come across the same challenge and have posted in the Power Apps community here.
Thanks.
Hi,
I encountered the same issue and found a work around.
In power bi desktop: Change the Power Bi visual to a table, leaving all datafields. Save and close the report.
Reopen the report and change the table visual back to power apps. The visual will now ask to select an environment and then an app. In these steps you can select your new environment and app.
HI Eland209,
do u have find another solutions to Changing the Environment of a Power Apps?
Hi @JordanImran ,
Do you want to create a table visual and put a file in it?
If yes, sorry for that power BI cannot achieve this.
Maybe you can upload your files to OneDrive For Business and copy the link based on Enter Data function, or create a Text box and insert the link.
If it doesn’t meet your requirement, perhaps you can submit the requirement to ideas and add your comments there to make this feature coming sooner : https://ideas.powerbi.com/forums/265200-power-bi-ideas
Or you can try to find a solution in the power Apps forum.

Not exactly - I'm looking to build a single Power BI Template File, and move it between Development and Test Environments.
When I move the dashboard using DevOps, I can adjust SQL connection strings without modifying the dashboard. For example:
Dev Connection String: user=mynamedev;pwd=mypassdev;db=mydbdev
Test Connection String: user=mynametest;pwd=mypasstest;db=mydbtest
Advantage is I have ONE .pbit file to manage.
I have a Power Apps for Power BI visual in my dashboard. However I can only change the environment to which it is connected by :
My question is: Is there a way to change the PowerApps connections (for Power BI) using parameters, as we would for SQL connection strings?
Thanks
Hi @JordanImran ,
Maybe you can refer this article. Hope it helps.

Doesn't help I'm afraid - more of an entry level guide.
I'll mark 'not possible' as the solution and get an idea patched to MSFT
Cheers all
@JordanImran - I'm not aware of any way to do that.
