Automate my visuals

Hi,

I have 10 excel files with data. I want to create a Power BI dashboard using those 10 excel files. I will create the dash board with various visuals etc. Then I want to delete all my data from the fields area.

What I want to do is get my users to upload their version of those 10 excel files (with the same headers but different data) and run the .pbix file so they can view all the visuals I have created based on their data.

Is this possible?

Hi @bobbob123 , I'd have to see a sample PBIX to get an idea of what it is you're trying to achieve. Another thing to factor in is that the import might fire up some pop up boxes related to privacy settings/credentials etc. There would be a bit of work into it.

Hi @bobbob123 , I'm assuming the user will have the PBIX file, so you could create a PBI Template file and have some steps created within Power Query that would say have a parameter to pass in a filepath and then an import step then for multiple files. Your files would need to be exact including case sensitivity and structure to ensure success.

Hi @davehus, yes I will be giving them my .pbix files with the visuals all filled out but no data in the field column. I will tell how to load in their data and that is as far as their input is.

Once they load the data into the field column, the visual need to automatically pick up the fields column and read the data appropriately.

My question is how?? because I can't seem to it make it work 😞

That was exactly what i needed.

All i had to do was delete my data once i created all my visuals. Then click on export as template.

So all i need to do now is share that template and tell them to load the data according to my specification.

Thank you 🙂
