Refreshing Power BI Service Report without re-publishing from PBI Desktop

Hi All,

I have a report that is currently refreshed manually once a week by publishing from the PBI Desktop.

I have had requests for the data to be refreshed more frequently, however I tend to work on new features through the week and don't want to accidently publish something incomplete.

I am looking for a way to refresh the underlying datasets, without publishing any changes that have been made to the PBI Desktop file.

The datasets currently all come from Excel files stored on a company drive. I would prefer a manual option to scheduled refreshes if possible as the Excel data would have to be updated manually anyway, negating any benefit from an automatic refresh.

Any help would be appreciated.

Datasets can be refreshed manually from the service:

If you want your users to be able to launch these refreshes without giving them access to that part of the Power BI

service, you can use Power Automate to do so, I've even done so in Teams via Adaptive Cards in some specific scenarios.

Hi Otravers,

Thanks for the response. I've made use of this along with an on-site gateway to allow for the manual refresh as you reccommended.

Many thanks!
