Hi! I'm currently trying to create a dashboard with the hours needed to create a product, its main category, sub-category, and the quarter when the product is made. The dataset looks something like this:
Hours | Category Level 1 | Category Level 2 | Quarter |
8 | A | A1 | Q1 |
12 | A | A1 | Q2 |
25 | A | A1 | Q3 |
46 | A | A1 | Q3 |
47 | A | A1 | Q4 |
48 | A | A2 | Q1 |
24 | A | A2 | Q2 |
40 | A | A2 | Q3 |
12 | A | A2 | Q4 |
4 | A | A2 | Q4 |
38 | A | A3 | Q1 |
6 | A | A3 | Q3 |
1 | A | A3 | Q4 |
37 | A | A3 | Q4 |
34 | A | A3 | Q4 |
10 | A | A4 | Q1 |
37 | A | A4 | Q1 |
43 | A | A4 | Q2 |
42 | A | A4 | Q4 |
24 | A | A4 | Q4 |
49 | B | B1 | Q1 |
12 | B | B1 | Q1 |
49 | B | B1 | Q2 |
33 | B | B1 | Q3 |
49 | B | B1 | Q4 |
33 | B | B2 | Q1 |
22 | B | B2 | Q1 |
2 | B | B2 | Q3 |
2 | B | B2 | Q3 |
47 | B | B2 | Q4 |
25 | B | B3 | Q2 |
45 | B | B3 | Q2 |
50 | B | B3 | Q3 |
26 | B | B3 | Q4 |
32 | B | B3 | Q4 |
37 | B | B4 | Q1 |
28 | B | B4 | Q2 |
10 | B | B4 | Q3 |
34 | B | B4 | Q4 |
26 | B | B4 | Q4 |
The dashboard initially needs to have a cluster chart where you can see the sum of total hours spent on category A and category B products as well as a stacked bar chart with quarters 1 to 4 as the x-axis and hours spent as the y-a xis, category B stacked on category B. Well, that's basic Power BI, so I managed to do it just fine:
So far so easy, now comes the part where I can't find a solution:
When selecting a category (eg. A) on the cluster chart, I want the bar chart to automatically show the sub-categories of A only.
Now when selecting A, I (obviously) only get this:
If I change category 1 with category 2 in the category field in Power BI I initially only get this:
After selecting A in the cluster chart I get the result I would have wanted in the beginning:
Is there any way to get directly from my first picture to the last one?
Theoretically, the input would probably look like this:
Obviously, that's not possible.
Would really appreciate your help!

Hi @Gertenschere ,
You can use new function: Filed Parameter.
You must enable it in Power BI Desktop in Options / Global / Preview Features / Field parameters.
Here are the steps you can follow:
1. Modeliing – New parameter – Fields.
2. Select the field [Category Level1], and enter [Category Level2].
3. Put [Parameter] in Legend.
4. Result:
Parameter select [Category Level1]
Parameter select [Category Level2]
