Measure Calculate at Lower Level

Hi everyone!

I am trying to create a type of VPM (Volume, Price, Mix) defined by my organisation.

I have the following

measures:

  • Total cost
  • Total cost LY
  • Total Sales Volume
  • Total Sales Volume LY
  • LY Cost/Unit = Total Cost LY / Total Sales Volume LY
  • Recalc LY Cost = LY Cost/Unit x Total Sales Volume

Here’s my issue (see below table).

If you have a look at the Recalc LY Cost and sum up the total for the two types of products, the result is $516,833.

However, the current Total result returns $536,215. This is because the LY Cost/Unit is calculated at the total level i.e. $41.3 x 12,987 = $536,215.

This is an important difference because the current total removes the weighting of the two products that would define the “Mix” impact.

Do you have any ideas about how I can write a measure that will return the same results for the two different different products but return $516,833 for the total?

Thanks a lot,

Harry
