Internal details of publish a report and refreshing the dataset

Can some body provide me the internal details of publish a report and refreshing the dataset.

Actually i have huge amount of data in my dataset. I need to assess the performace and refresh time of my dataset.

I need following details:

a) Refresh is incremental or not.

b) Can we access the dataset while refreshing it.

c) How data publishing is working sync or async

a) Yes incremental

b) if published and you refresh dataset, your reports and dashboard still accessible while it refresh

c) I am not sure about this one.
