Creating a copy or a branch of Published Power BI Dashboard

Hi all,

I have built a Power BI dashboard using datasets available in my PostgreSQL database on my local machine (normal work laptop). I have published the dashboard to a workspace on Fabric and have been refreshing the datasets and the dashboard on a daily basis. One of my colleagues has been granted admin roles for the same Fabric workspace. They created a copy of the dashboard within the same workspace under a new name and began customizing it according to their needs (such as adding more measures and visuals). Surprisingly, my original dashboard was affected while they were modifying the copy within the same workspace on Fabric. Our plan was for them to create different copies of the original dashboard with unique names and customize them all within the same workspace, while I would continue refreshing the datasets and the original dashboard copy. How can we achieve that? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Yulia,

Direct query is not an option for us. I think I need to configure the gateway and install npgsql on my local machine.

Hi @ZiaRehman

Based on my testing, I didn't have the problem you did, here's how I did it.

Notes: Based on your description, I think you're talking about a report, which you can determine is the type of it based on the location shown in the screenshot.

I tested the dashboard just as well.

Report:

1. Create and publish the report to workspace A. I am using Direct Query to connect to SQL server.

2. Set another user as admin for the workspace.

3. This user copied report1, changed the name of the report to report2, and added a visual chart.

No effect on the content in report1

2. added a text tile to dashboard2

Please feel free to let me know if I have misunderstood you. My suggestion for now is to check your process again for any problems.

Best Regards,
Yulia Xu
