Is it possible to create a composite model from
Power BI dataset and
SSAS but import mode
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @difolt ,
According to your description, you want to composite SSAS and dataset data sources in Power BI Desktop .Right?
Normally, we connect our dataset with “Live Connection” connection mode in Power BI Desktop. In this connection mode, we cannot add other data sources. However, we can turn on the preview feature in Power BI Desktop to convert the “LiveConnection” connection mode into “DirectQuery” connection mode, and then we can add other data sources.
Here are the steps you can follow:
(1)We can turn on the preview feature in “File-Options and settings-Options - Preview features”. We select the checkbox in front of the “DirectQuery for PBI datasets and AS”.
After the submission is successful, we need to restart the Power BI Desktop to make this preview feature take effect.
(2)Then we can create a live connection to our dataset in Power BI Desktop. When we add other data sources, we will be prompted to convert the the “LiveConnection” connection mode into “DirectQuery” connection mode. We can also manually convert in the lower right corner of the interface.(Using DirectQuery on datasets from “My worksapce” isn’t currently supported)
(3)After conversion, we can import our SSAS data source. And the “Storage Mode” will be Mixed (Import mode + DirectQuery mode)
