Common dashboard from different workspaces

We would like to create a summary dashboard for the top management from several workspaces with different permissions (finance, sales, production, QA). Each workspace has its own visualizations, but we would like to display only the KPI on the management dashboard, so that all important and related data is visible on one screen, in one workspace (for management member's rights). Currently our solution is to copy the charts and presenting them on the web interface, but then we have to keep refreshing them one by one, so duplicating the work.

Is it possible to create a dashboard where all KPIs are automatically updated from linked but different workspaces diagrams?

Or

How would you create a common dashbboard from different workspaces?

I hope it makes sense.

Many thanks in advance.

Kind regards,

Peter

To create a summary dashboard for top management that consolidates KPIs from different workspaces with different permissions, you have a few options:

  1. Power BI App Workspaces and App Navigation:

    • Create separate Power BI App Workspaces for each department (finance, sales, production, QA).
    • Create a separate Power BI App Workspace for the management dashboard.
    • Use Power BI's app navigation feature to link to the KPI visualizations in each department's workspace from the management dashboard.
    • This approach allows you to maintain separate workspaces for each department while providing a centralized management dashboard that consolidates KPIs.
  2. Power BI Service Integration:

    • Use the Power BI service's integration capabilities to embed KPI visualizations from different workspaces into a single dashboard.
    • You can use Power BI's content embedding feature to embed individual visuals or entire reports into a master dashboard.
    • This approach allows you to aggregate KPIs from multiple workspaces into a single dashboard without having to duplicate visualizations.
  3. Dataflows and Data Integration:

    • Create dataflows in each department's workspace to extract and transform the relevant KPI data into a standardized format.
    • Use Power BI's data integration features to combine data from multiple dataflows into a single dataset.
    • Create KPI visualizations based on the combined dataset in the management dashboard workspace.
    • This approach allows you to centralize and standardize KPI data from different workspaces for reporting purposes.
  4. Automated Data Refresh:

    • Configure automated data refresh for the datasets and reports in each department's workspace to ensure that the KPI visualizations are always up-to-date.
    • Power BI supports scheduled data refresh for datasets stored in the Power BI service, allowing you to keep the management dashboard updated without manual intervention.
  5. Custom Development:

    • If the built-in features of Power BI do not fully meet your requirements, you can explore custom development options using Power BI's APIs and SDKs.
    • You can develop custom solutions to programmatically retrieve and aggregate KPI data from different workspaces and present them in a centralized management dashboard.

Hi @MC_TO , currently there is no option to pin visuals across multiple workspaces. It is more convienent to build a summary report in power bi desktop from multiple datasources and publishing into service.

Thanks,
