Was previously using powerbi service to connect directly to salesforce. With the introduction of Power BI report server is this even possible anymore, do we need to query all of our salesforce data using SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) and connect to that.

@Anonymous There is a current limitation in that SSAS Tabular is the only supported datasource for Power BI reports. While there have been no public roadmap disclosures, I would find it highly unlikely that this would be the only datasource supported long term, it would just be a matter of when other datasources are supported.
Depending on your time frame, the answer could be yes or no.

Currently, the only data source supported for Power BI reports are a live connection to Analysis Services (tabular or multidimensional). More data sources will be added in future releases.
