Unable to create scheduled refresh

Hello everyone,

we recently updated the Power BI Report Server on premise with the January 2024 version.

Since then we are unable to create a scheduled refresh.

When creating in the Report Server we always get the error:

An error has occurred.
Something went wrong. Please try again later.

When we look into the log file there ist the following error:

2024-02-19 14:51:12.2626|ERROR|59|OData exception occurred: System.Net.WebException: The request failed with HTTP status 503: Service Unavailable.

Thank you!

Hi @lisaott ,

The HTTP status 503 error typically indicates that the server is temporarily unable to handle the request. This can be due to the server being down for maintenance or being overloaded. Given that this issue started occurring after an update, it's possible that there might be a configuration issue or a service dependency that's not being met.

Here are a few steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Verify Server Health and Configuration: Ensure that all services related to Power BI Report Server are running as expected. This includes checking the SQL Server Database Engine instance used by the report server, the SQL Server Agent (if scheduled refreshes are used), and any other related services.

2. Check Service Dependencies: Since the error is related to a web request failing, verify that all necessary services and components that the Power BI Report Server depends on are operational. This includes network services and any external data sources that your reports might be trying to access.

3. Review Server Logs in Detail: Look for any additional errors or warnings in the Power BI Report Server logs around the time the issue occurs. This can provide further clues on what might be causing the issue.

4. Reconfigure Data Source Credentials: Ensure that the data source credentials used by the reports are correctly configured in the Power BI Report Server. Incorrect or expired credentials can sometimes lead to issues with scheduled refreshes.
