We have recently upgraded our in prem report server to January 2024 release and since then our data driven subscriptions have taken up to an hour to email when before the upgrade they took a couple of minutes. We get the notification table backed up full of the subscriptions.
We have added more cores to the server but it hasn't made much of a difference. Has anyone else had this problem?
It sounds like you're experiencing performance issues with data-driven subscriptions after upgrading your on-premises Power BI Report Server to the January 2024 release. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
Check for Known Issues: Start by checking the release notes or community forums to see if there are any known issues or performance bottlenecks associated with the January 2024 release. Sometimes, other users may have reported similar issues, and there might be recommended solutions or workarounds available.
Review System Resource Usage: Monitor the resource usage of your Power BI Report Server, including CPU, memory, and disk utilization, during the execution of data-driven subscriptions. Ensure that the server has sufficient resources allocated to handle the workload, especially with the added cores you mentioned.
Review Subscription Queries: Review the queries used by the data-driven subscriptions to ensure they are optimized for performance. This includes optimizing the underlying SQL queries and ensuring that any joins, filters, or aggregations are efficient.

Hi @gooranga1 ,
Firstly, it's important to note that adding more cores to your server might not always result in improved performance for Power BI Report Server. The performance can depend on various factors, including the nature of the reports, the data model, and how the server is being utilized.

We send a lot of subscriptions and always have for years without issue. We manage these subscriptions and we know not to run big reports at critical times which for us is between 08:00 and 09:00. These delays were not gradual they were instant on the day after we upgraded the report server to Januarry 2024. Below is a screenshot showing the difference between the 28th Feb 2024 and 29th Feb 2024. We upgraded the report server on the afternoon of the 28th Feb. Nothing else changed, all the subscriptions were identical from one day to the next. This is just one example as we send around 400 in this hour. All of them delayed.
The Notifications table fills up and will process between 5 and 7 emails per minute at best.
The only thing that changed was the server version.
