Excel Spreadsheet Security issue on Power BI Report Server

We are storing our spreadsheets in the web portal so the users can download and view what they need.  We are currently not using OOS because we couldn't figure out how to make viewing the spreadsheet in PBRS optional if the user wanted to skip straight to downloading the spreadsheets.

We have a folder with a set of shared spreadsheets and would like to allow certain groups to see only the spreadsheets that apply to them.  However, whenever I hit the "Customize Security"  link in the Secuirty section of the Manage spreadsheetname.xlsx, the spreadsheet will no longer download.  Clicking on the spreadsheet brings up "The website cannot display the page" with a HTTP 500 Internal Server Error.  I haven't changed anything, all I do is click that link and it no longer works.  I'm an admin so I haven't removed my own access.  If I click "Use same security as parent folder" everything goes back as it was and I can download the spreadsheet again.  Is there a way for me to customize the security for my Excel spreadsheets?  Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong (seems like it's a bug to me)?  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi @anetvg,

PG team provide a workaround below:

“Create a folder for what needed to set custom security. Set custom security to the folder, then move excel files to that folder and use parent security setting. “

Please test it and feel free to tell us if you have any concern.

I am seeing this as an issue on my PBIRS.  Getting the same error.  I have tried the workaround suggested.  Able to download a spreadsheet as an admin, but other users cannot access and are receiving the following error:

"The website decliend to show this webpage.  This website requires you to log in. "

User is authenticated and has navigated thru PBIRS to the spreadsheet location.

Hi there,

Thank you!  We actually have done this and it works.  However, we have a lot of folders with just one Excel spreadsheet in them so still looking forward to the fix!

Regards,

Annette

Hi @anetvg,

I can reproduce this issue, and already reported it internally: MSSOLVE 118012917543919. Will update here once I get any information.
