Data source errorThe credentials provided for the SharePoint source are invalid.

Hi All,

Just wanted some help. We keep getting this error message since yesterday. The report was working fine, but since yesterday the refresh keeps coming up with this message. Not a power BI expert, as the report was put together by my predecessor, so any help would be much appreciated.

Data source errorThe credentials provided for the SharePoint source are invalid. (Source at https://mitiegrp.sharepoint.com/sites/pwa.). The exception was raised by the IDataReader interface. Please review the error message and provider documentation for further information and corrective action. Table: _Lessons Learned.

It seems like the error message indicates an issue with the credentials provided for accessing the SharePoint data source used in your Power BI report. Here's what you can do to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1. **Check Credentials:** Verify that the credentials used to access the SharePoint site haven't expired or been changed. If they have, update the credentials in the Power BI service accordingly.

2. **Data Source Settings:** In the Power BI service, navigate to the dataset settings for the report. Check the data source settings for the SharePoint connection and ensure that the correct authentication method and credentials are configured.

3. **Connection Test:** Test the data source connection directly from the Power BI service. This can help identify if the issue is with the credentials or with the data source itself.

4. **Permissions:** Ensure that the account used to access the SharePoint site has the necessary permissions to view the data. If permissions have been modified or revoked, it could lead to authentication errors.

5. **Check SharePoint Configuration:** Review the SharePoint site settings to ensure that there are no changes that could be causing authentication issues. This includes checking for any updates or changes in security settings.

6. **Refresh Schedule:** If the report refresh is scheduled, make sure that the refresh schedule hasn't been interrupted or changed unexpectedly.

7. **Error Logs:** Look for additional error logs or details in the Power BI service or SharePoint logs that might provide more insight into the root cause of the issue.

If the above steps don't resolve the issue, you might need to reach out to your IT department or SharePoint administrator for further assistance, especially if there have been recent changes to SharePoint permissions or configurations. They can help troubleshoot the issue from the SharePoint side and ensure that the necessary permissions and configurations are in place for the Power BI report to access the data successfully.
