Connecting to Google Analytics and trying to filter in Power Query

Hi

I have connected to Google Analytics and the connection works fine, however when I try and filter on dates (I only want to see a year or so worth of data), I get the following error message

Expression.Error: The field 'errors' of the record wasn't found.
Details:
code=400
message=Invalid JSON payload received. Message too deep. Max recursion depth reached for key ''
status=INVALID_ARGUMENT

any idea what this may mean?

Hi @joseph_m_liverp ,

Based on the error message you've shared, it seems like you're encountering a problem related to the maximum recursion depth being exceeded. This typically occurs when the query sent to Google Analytics is too complex or nested beyond what Google Analytics can process.

Hi @joseph_m_liverp As a workaround, maybe you can try to test your connection with a 3rd party tool and see if it works well. I connect my GA4 data through this method and I've never had any similar error message. I've tried windsor.ai, supemetrics, and funnel.io. I stayed with Windsor because it is much cheaper so just to let you know other options. In case you wonder, to make the connection first search for the GA4 connector in the data sources list:

GA4-1.png

After that, just grant access to your GA4 account using your credentials, then on preview and destination page you will see a preview of your GA4 fields:

GA4-2.png

There just select the fields you need. Finally, just select PBI as your data destination and finally just copy and paste the url on PBI --> Get Data --> Web --> Paste the url.
