creating multiple Groups where values within different groups are shared

I need to present multiple groups of items for the customer to choose from but the values within these groups can be repeated.

For example:

Items

xxxx         

yyyy

zzzz

wwww

vvvv

I need to create the following groups:

Group1 contaisn xxxx+yyyy+zzzz

Group2 contains wwww+vvvv

Group3 contains xxxx+vvvv

As soon as I create my groups the values used in the group disapear from the main list of items and I cant reuse them when I create another group.

Am I doing something wrong?
