Understanding the working of a calculated column

Hello Everyone,

 

I am learning Power BI and wants to understand the working of a calculated column.

I have Employee ID and Pay Rate. I created a Measure

Avg_PayRate = average(core_dataset[Pay Rate])

Now I want to create a calculated column to use as a filter.

When i create it as:

Column = IF(core_dataset[Pay Rate]>AVERAGEX(core_dataset,core_dataset[Pay Rate]),"yes","no")
It works fine.
But when i create it as:
Column 3 =
IF(core_dataset[Pay Rate]>[Average Pay Rate],"yes","no"),
It is giving "no" for each row. I just want to understand the working of both columns as one is giving correct results and other is not. Thanks.

Hi @parry2k,

 

The result of "Column" is correct but for the "Column 3" it is not. So i just wants to understand how to evaluate a formula. Thanks
