Hi all
I've used the appropriate formulate to pull out the year from an invoice date to go into a new column in my data set. The problem I now have is when I try to create a basic matrix and add the new 'ship year'...The year does not show....it has some blown up sum....assuming it's adding up all the years and perhaps seeing this as a number.
I just did this for another type of date requirement and it worked fine. Is there some setting I need to adjust to get the matrix to show the year and not a sum?

Solved! Go to Solution.
Not sure what formula you are using to calculate year but seems like it is coming out as a number, you can use two methods to no summarize,
- click on down arrow key and say don't summarize
Or go to modelling table, select the field and select don't summarize

In your scenario, I assume you use Year() function to pulling year part from a date. This function will return a number. In Power BI Desktop, when draging a numeric value into a visual, it will aggregate automatically. You can set the aggregation type into "Don't summarized" as @parry2k suggested, or you can change the data type into Text.
