We are currently looking into moving our data warehouse to Fabric but we have some external data in an Azure SQL database. We'd like to integrate this data with Fabric without having to copy or move it. Is there a way to create a 'shortcut' (or equivalent of a linked server) in a Fabric Lakehouse or Warehouse to allow you to directly query the data that is in the Azure SQL database?
The only way I can think to query the same data from both environments is to store the data in ADLS and set it up as an external table in SQL. However the SQL database is running an established system that we can't change.
Thanks

Hi @MarkBurgess when do you need this up and running by? Mirroring in Azure SQL is on the Fabric roadmap but not available yet. There's no shortcut support for sql databases, so it may be that you'd need to incrementally export the data from the sql database to (as you say) azure data lake and then shortcut into fabric from there
Thanks @AndyDDC, good to know that mirroring is on the roadmap. Is there an approximate date?
