Hi,
we use shared datasets to create a central data model for reports based on a database in an Azure SQL managed instance.
This worked as desired until recently. We also have several reports based on a central dataset.
To edit existing reports, we download them and use Power BI Desktop. For some time now, when we download the reports, they lose the connection to the original dataset. The connection via the dataset is replaced by a direct connection to the data source.
Then when the report is published, it has its own new dataset with the name of the report.
Example:
Has anything changed in the last few weeks that might explain this behavior?
Oliver
Hey Oliver,
My guess is you downloaded a report that is attached to the data model ( i.e the original version of the report that uses import mode). The other reports are then later connect via direct query to the dataset that was published together with the original report (pbix).
This is not a new behaviour.
Options:
Couple things to be aware of too is how you published the pbix. If you publish from power bi desktop, under the same name, it will overwrite the original dataset and report ( assuming the original was published the same way too). Option 2 is the easiest if the changes are not significant.
