Power BI in GCC Cloud in Azure Commercial Cloud

Hi there,

Our Power BI is on GCC Cloud and Azure Data warehouse in Commercial Cloud.

Does anyone know upfront of any challenges of the BI tool and Data warehouse being in different cloud environments?

Appreciate your inputs.

Thank you!

Make sure the regions are as close as possible for Network Latency.

As long as there is proper authenticiation, you should not have an issue.

Also, there could be Egress charges from the source system to extract data, so incremental refreshes need to be looked at. Full refreshes causes alot of the same data to cross cloud environments.

Hi @subhakt ,
There are indeed a few challenges that you may encounter when working with Power BI and Azure Data Warehouse across different cloud environments. First, you need to ensure that any data transfer between the GCC and Commercial Cloud adheres to government regulations and compliance requirements specific to the GCC. Second, establishing secure and reliable connectivity will require careful planning and configuration. Third, check for any differences in Power BI features between the two cloud environments. Some features available in the Commercial Cloud might not be available or have limited functionality in GCC. Last, ensure that data is encrypted during transit and at rest, and that security protocols are maintained throughout the data's lifecycle in both environments.
Set up a unified identity management system if possible, such as Azure Active Directory, to streamline access across both environments.
