Dear all,
We currently had a discussion with our SAP BW provider. We're doing our whole reporting with Power BI and now we want to integrate SAP BW with the connector. Our provider doesn't want to allow this, because he thinks we have access to all cubes and this wouldn't be okay.
My question is now: If we install the SAP BW Connector, how can we achieve a solution where we only have access to data from a specific cube? Do we need to set it up with an account, that only has permissions to this specific cube?
And is there anywhere a documentation how the connector works? Like a technical documentation?
Regards,
Roman

Hi @roumen92,
1. I mean, with what credentials do I have to sign in againt the SAP server? Because I don't see a point in the documentation where I have to type in my credentials.
When get data from the SAP BW in Power BI desktop, it uses a user ID and a password for logon. See: Logon and Password Security in the ABAP-System.
2. Or how do we have to secure it on SAP side? Does anybody ever had this problem to be only allowed to access one single cube?
Power BI exposes queries and cubes exposed by the BW Open Analysis Interface OLAP BAPIs. The SAP BW logon user and permission setting are done on SAP BW side. You can contact your SAP BW administrator for help. Also you can post a question in SAP BW forum.

Hi @roumen92,
To limit the user to access the specific SAP BW cube, the permission should be set on SAP BW side, you can contact your SAP BW administrator for help.
There is a official document which introduces SAP BW connector in Power BI desktop, please take a look: Use the SAP BW Connector in Power BI Desktop.

Thank you for your input. But it isn't quite clear to me.

One easy way to access SAP data from the source ECC system, rather than extracting it a second time from SAP BW, is through Simplement's Data Liberator. This platform surfaces any SAP ECC (or CRM) table in real-time, and puts it directly into SQL Server, ready for Power BI.
