Should I build Datawarehouse in Azure or MS Fabric?

If we just start building a Datawarehouse, should I built it in MS Fabric or Azure? There are still missing feature in MS Fabric where as I can see it is the future moveing forward but Azure is also already stable and support lot of modern activities. Not sure what would be the right choice.

Hi @manoplaeli ,
Thanks for using Microsoft Fabric Community.

The decision to build your data warehouse in Microsoft Fabric or Azure depends on a variety of factors, including your specific requirements, budget, and timeline. Here are some factors to consider:

1) Features: Microsoft Fabric and Azure both offer a wide range of features for building data warehouses. However, Microsoft Fabric is a newer service and may not have all the features that Azure offers. You should evaluate the features of both services and determine which one best meets your requirements.

2) Cost: The cost of building a data warehouse in Microsoft Fabric or Azure can vary depending on the size of your data, the number of users, and the features you need. You should evaluate the cost of both services and determine which one fits your budget.

3) Integration: If you are already using other Azure services, such as Azure Data Factory or Azure Machine Learning, it may be easier to integrate your data warehouse with these services if you build it in Azure. Similarly, if you are already using Microsoft Fabric for other services, it may be easier to build your data warehouse in Microsoft Fabric.

4) Support: Both Microsoft Fabric and Azure offer support for building data warehouses. However, the level of support may vary depending on the service and the specific features you are using. You should evaluate the support options for both services and determine which one best meets your needs.

Ultimately, the decision to build your data warehouse in Microsoft Fabric or Azure depends on your specific requirements and goals. You should evaluate the features, cost, integration, and support options for both services and determine which one best meets your needs.

Microsoft Fabric is a newer service than Azure, and it is still under development. However, it is designed to be a unified data platform for all of your data needs, including data warehousing, analytics, and machine learning. Azure Synapse Analytics is a more mature service that is specifically designed for data warehousing and analytics.

If you are just starting to build a data warehouse, I would recommend using Azure Synapse Analytics. It is a stable and well-supported service with a wide range of features. Once Microsoft Fabric is more mature and has all of the features that you need, you can then migrate your data warehouse to Fabric.

Here is a table that summarizes the key differences between Microsoft Fabric and Azure Synapse Analytics:

Feature Microsoft Fabric Azure Synapse Analytics
Type SaaS PaaS
Maturity Preview Mature
Features Data warehousing, analytics, machine learning Data warehousing, analytics
Cost Pay-as-you-go Pay-as-you-go
Support Limited Good

Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any further queries.
