whatif analysis

Hi,

 

I am using tabular model for analysis and need to use whatif analysis paramter. I am not able to enable it. Please let me know how i can do it.

You have to be on the report canvas for the button to be active.

Pl see the attached pic, i am on  the report canvas,but that button is not enabled.

Hmm, might be version dependent. Try going to File | Options and settings | Options and then go to Preview Features and see if it shows up there and if it does, confirm that the box is checked.

 

Oh, also, is this a Direct Query report? I don't believe that functionality is available in a Direct Query report because you can't mix "live" and "imported" data yet.

Yes its a direct query, but if i need to do the whatif anaysis with direct query then how i can do it.

You would add the desired What If parameter table to your model in your source.

how to add whatif paramter in data source, can u please tell me?

I don't know your source but all a What If parameter table is is a list of all possible values that you would like to evaluate something on. So, if I wanted to evaluate something for all possible % values in 10% increments I would have a table like:

.2

.3

.4

.5

.6

.7

.8

.9

1

 

Then you create a slicer based on this table and use SELECTEDVALUE function to get the current value selected.

 

Hmm, one thought, I don't believe that SELECTEDVALUE is supported in Direct Query:

So, you might have to get creative like just create a measure that is MyValue = MAX('Table'[Column]) for your parameter table.
