Trying to use github connector to get data from GitHub Enterprise Organization

Hi,

Am a newbie to PowerBI forum - so please excuse me for any issues with format/content/process here 🙂

( I did try to search a little bit to see if my issue was answered, but have not found anything satisfactory, and thus this post).

I need to create dashboards from GitHub porjects/issues. Thus, trying to connect PowerBI to a GitHub Enterprise Organization repo.

On using the 'Github' connector ( which is in beta), I am able to connect it to a repo which is owned by me and under my  name eg github.com/taher/MyTestRepo. However when I try to connect it to the company's Org repo, eg github.com/XYZOrg/TestRepo, it does not allow me to do it.

I read somewhere about a limitation of not being able to connect to GitHub Enterprise - would be good if someone here can confirm if that is correct and if there is some good documentation which states this.

Also, if this is true, then its a huge limitation and would be good to know if there is any roadmap/ETA when this would be fixed?

The other possible option I read ( and tried) was to try to use the 'Get Data => Web' option - but this did not work too. Got an "Unable to connect - Request aborted - connection closed" error.

Note: Am trying to connect to a repo which is under an Enterprise GitHub account owned Org and is private - but I am the owner/admin of it.

Would appreciate any pointers from anyone who has been able to do this successfully ?

Thanks

Taher.

Hi @taherkf ,

According to your description, it seems like you are trying to connect to Github Enterprise. However, it appears that the Power BI GitHub connector currently does not support GitHub Enterprise. Please review the following links and check if they can be used as an workaround.

Can you point me to the correct documentation which states this ie for the Github connector

>>> Connect to GitHub with Power BI - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

This one ( for the template app) clearly says 'Does not support Github Enterprise'

>>> How to Integrate GitHub Into Power BI - Zebra BI

This one says its an experimental AI generated article and may not be correct.

Also the integration part does not mention the issue I am seeing and does not work as mentioned.

>>> Connect Power BI to Private GitHub Repo — Smoother Consulting

This was an interesting article and sort of useful - I say sort of useful because it shows a way to connect to a csv file ( and not the whole repo directly). Thus, for my case, I will have to generate the required csv file first.

I still don't have neat way to connect to the Enterprise repo.

Thanks

Taher.
