Matrix visual

in power BI
create a Matrix visual I need to show the following rows and columns.

This is the 1st time I am creating a matrix.

Note I have not created any measures.

Matrix-Requirement.png

1. If the matrix is created with
Rows
Status
Department
Issue/Category

Values
Action
StartDate
EndDate

The results, displays all data accurately. However is cluttered.

eg Behind schedule Total = 6

Matrix-01.png

2. If the matrix is created with
Rows
Status
Department

Values ( i added the fields in Values area. I added the fields in Columns area however does not display correctly. see 3.)
Issue/Category
Action
StartDate
EndDate

The actual data
Behind Schedule Total 6
Board total is 2.
Issue/Category are:
Governance
Policy & Procedure

PLC total is 2
Issue/Category are:
Knowledge & Information
Policy & Procedure

The results, does not display all data. ie

Behind Schedule Total 4
Board total 1
Issue/Category are:
Governance

PLC total is 1
Issue/Category are:
Knowledge & Information

Matrix-02.png

3. If the matrix is created with
Rows
Status
Department

Columns (in Columns area add fields)
Issue/Category
Action
StartDate
EndDate

The results, the columns dont display correctly.

Other formatting issues
The status and the department display an action. status and the department donot have actions.
The actions are with the Issue/Category.

In Values section, the fields name contains First. The fields do not need to display in order. The fields are to display.

How can I achieve this?

TIA

Hi @dd88 ,

When you include multiple fields in the Rows and Values area, the Matrix can become cluttered, especially if there are many unique combinations of these fields. To make your Matrix more readable:

  1. Simplify the Display: Consider using fewer fields in the Rows area or summarizing your data before it's displayed in the Matrix. This can be done by creating measures that aggregate your data in a way that's meaningful for your analysis.

Incorrect Data Display and Formatting Issues

For the issues related to incorrect data display and formatting:

  1. Review Aggregation Settings: In the Values area, Power BI automatically aggregates numeric fields. If your fields like and are being aggregated (e.g., by sum or average), this could lead to incorrect displays. You might want to consider creating measures that correctly calculate the data you want to display, such as the earliest or the latest for each category.
