Creating hierarchy from Self joined table

I have a table with folder and document hierarchy, where rows in a table have a parent row in the same table. How can I create the hierarchy in the data model, and show it in a graph, such that the graph shows the top level folders with the total number of descendant folders/documents under it. Also provide a drill down, so that clicking a folder will then show its child folders.
