Hi,
When someone publishes a power bi report from desktop, there will be a report and a dataset being created in the workspace. I have archived the report in a local disk for backup purpose, do I need to archive the dataset as well?
I understand if i download the dataset file, i will actually get the same report file, hence I don't see the need to archive the dataset file.

Hi, @Jeanxyz
When you publish a report to pbi service, a report and a dateset will be generated. In fact, these two parts are from one pbix file. When you download the report in the service(report or dateset), you actually download the entire file, which contains two parts, they are the same file.
The report contains visual information, and the dateset contains data model information. They are presented separately in the service, and can even use the dateset to create new reports. They are presented in the form of pbix file on the desktop (computer).

No need to acrcive dataset file if your report and dataset are same pbix file
to make sure, open your archived file and check if you are able to see data in data tab
