Performance Analyzer of PBI Reports on the Service?

Hi to all,

we've migrated all the data of a complex report from an Import mode to a Lakehouse in Fabric. We did also the rebind of a copy of the report, so we'd like to anayze in details if it's faster.

From a simple qualitative point of view (by opening both reports) it doesn't seem faster. I'd like to understand if it's possible to use something like the Performance Analyzer, but even if the semantic model has changed, it's still a Large Semantic Model...so it's not possible to download the report.

Any idea?

Hi,

Without out downloading the report from service you can't use performance analyser as it is a tool available only on power bi desktop.If you were able to download the report then you will be able to create a composite model and you can test it.I think you can spend some time and you will be able to write the dax without the help of performance analyser.

If you want the live data and don't want data on schedule basis go for lake house mode.From my experience if you have large volume of data and your report have more custom columns and measures the direct lake mode takes time to show the data.Create composite model and you can test it.

I would test the performance is to use DAX studio between the imported model and the model using the lakehouse in fabric. Run the same query using the benchmarking tool and see which one returns faster.

thank you for the suggestion, but how do I get the DAX query under a visual in Power BI Service?

Because I can connect with DAX Studio, but since I can't download the PBIX, I can't see the underlying DAX query sent for each visual.

I would open up another PBIX file and create the same visuals as you have in the power BI service (semantic Model) after which you can then use the performance analyzer.
