Moved to PPU workspace and my refreshs are delaying

Hey guys, what's up?

I've just moved from PRO to PPU workspace and set my semantic model refresh to 6:30, 7:30, 8:30, 9:30...

But for some reason the refreshs are starting way past that.

In PRO workspace this was not happening. Any ideas?

Hi @rbrandsbi ,

Great! @hackcrr Very detailed troubleshooting of the problem.

Note also that the configured refresh time might not be the exact time when Power BI starts the next scheduled process. Power BI starts scheduled refreshes on a best effort basis. The target is to initiate the refresh within 15 minutes of the scheduled time slot, but a delay of up to one hour can occur if the service can't allocate the required resources sooner.

Hope it helps!

Hi, @rbrandsbi

In practice, the actual refresh time may deviate from the set time due to resource contention, system load, or other factors. You can indeed use Power Automate to create a stream that departs the semantic model refresh of Power BI Service. This way, you can control the start time of the refresh more precisely. You can refer to the following article to learn how to create a stream for your semantic model:

Appreciate your replies.

I didn't know there is a target to refresh within 15 minutes, IMO that does not make sense at all, but ok.

What is most strange to me is that previously, on PRO Workspace, that didn't happened like that, it would start seconds after the time it was schedule to.

I need it to start at point 00:30, so I guess the way is to use PowerAutomate - wich in my tests, it starts seconds after what I've set.

Thanks for your attention 🙂

Hi, @rbrandsbi

When you have migrated from a Power BI Pro workspace to a Power BI Premium Per User (PPU) workspace and set up a refresh schedule for the semantic model, but find that the refresh starts well after the time you set, this can be due to several reasons. Here are some suggestions to help you resolve this issue:
1. Refresh Delay: In Power BI, even though you set a specific refresh time, the actual refresh may start sometime after that time.Power BI will try to start the refresh within the scheduled time period, but there may be some delay due to resource allocation, service load, or other factors. This delay is usually normal and usually starts within 15 minutes after the scheduled time. However, if the delay is excessive (more than 1 hour), further investigation may be required.
2. Check the capacity settings: In the PPU workspace, the semantic model refresh is performed on Premium capacity. Make sure that your capacity has enough resources to handle refresh requests and has not reached its resource limit. If the capacity is resource constrained, it may cause a delay in refreshing.
3. Check other scheduled tasks: If there are other scheduled tasks (e.g., data stream refreshes, refreshes of other semantic models, etc.) also executing during the same time period, they may compete for the same resources, which may cause your semantic model refresh to be delayed. Try adjusting your refresh schedule to avoid overlapping with other tasks.
4. Check data source connections: Make sure your data source connections are stable and reliable. If the data source connection is unstable or slow to respond, the refresh may be delayed or fail.
