I have a composite data model that refreshes fine in Desktop PBIX but refuses to refresh in Service. The error received is "internal service error," that is "usually transient" but has been going on for about a week.
Either need more info, or you should open a support ticket at Microsoft Fabric Support and Status | Microsoft Fabric

MCSA: BI ReportingWhat other info are you expecting? Since it works fine in Desktop it's not a coding or model logic issue, is there a setting? Is refreshing composite models in Service not supported?
Yes, it is supported in the service. But what kind of composite model?
Lots of configs. What are you expecting to refresh? If it is DQ of AAS/PBI, how many connections are there? Is it Dataset A to Dataset B to Dataset C?

MCSA: BI ReportingOne import table from PBI Dataflow.
Two DQ on PBI datasets.
Multiple DAX calculated tables using those dataset DQ tables.
Calcualted Tables aren't supported for refresh. Use composite models in Power BI Desktop - Power BI | Microsoft Learn
You should query those tables using the AAS connector and bring them in as Power Query Import tables.

MCSA: BI ReportingIf that's the cause why am I receiving a different error message?
You should also get this warning if you have calculated columns/tables that would create problems.
