There is not enough space on the disk error message

Hi All,

I reviewed few posts around this but could not find it conclusive. I am using Power BI desktop. It is installed in C:\ I am doing dev work in C: but do not save any .pbix files on C:

I keep getting There is not enough space on the disk error message periodically. Somehow the C: keeps getting full.

I periodically remove everything from: .../AppData/Local/Temp folder and clear up the recycle bin.

This does not seem to fix the problem for a longer run. The C has 100 GB and it goes down to 10-20 MB and the machine slows down. I do not run other resource intensive applications on the machine.

Can power bi desktop be the culprit? If so, how would I get around this problem? Thanks a lot for any help someone can provide.

Perhaps this article will help you Power BI – Losing Disk space when working with Power BI Desktop - FourMoo | Fabric | Power BI. I was running into a similar issue and this cleared up a significant amount of space (40 GB) for me.

Main steps:
"Click on Start, then Run and put the following into the Run Command below.

%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Power BI Desktop\TempSaves

This should then open the location of the Temp Saves for Power BI Desktop Files.

I then selected all the files that I knew I no longer needed."

Plese check the temporary file in the Power BI desktop directory. And try clear the cache of the Power BI.

Hi Prashant,

In "You can also check your cache size by going to Options -> Global -> Data Load -> Data Cache Management Options" . You can clear the cashe see button below. This should fix the issue.

Thank you for your response.

I had reviewed this post prior to creating new post myself. This did not seem to answer the question I believe.

I am already clearing off %temp% which points to: ../AppData/Local . I am doing it almost everyday.

When it says: make sure you have enough space in user folder, are you referring to the location where the dev is done? (The dev is done in C:\ where I have 100 GB total, 15-20 MB free space.) Increasing space on C: may not be the solution. The reason is: last time this happened, IT helped reclaiming space by about 20 GB but after that without running anything significant on the machine except power bi dev work, the C: got filled up again which prompts me to believe that power bi dev work is filling up the space somewhere that I am not aware of.  If I don't understand where is it, then the problem will keep recurring.

Lastly, on the statement "You can also check your cache size by going to Options -> Global -> Data Load -> Data Cache Management Options"

Can you elaborate little more, where to look? Where would i find this location? what should be expected as a cache size there?

Thanks again.

Hi ppgandhi11,

In Power BI go to File--> Options and Settings --> Options  -->Global -> Data Load -> Data Cache Management Options".  Clear the cache below.

Hi Prashant,

Did you ever resolve your issue? I'm experiencing the same thing with a couple of users.

Thanks

Jeff
