How to use 'List of Values' from parameters in PowerBI Service or Select multiple values.

Hi,

We created a report with a few parameters, some of them are date values and some are text. For text type, we want to use 'List of values'. We could select the required values from the list on the power bi desktop. Is there any option or workaround to see the list of values and choose the required one in Power bi service? And we would like to know if we can pass multiple values for the same parameter in Powerbi service.

Yes, you can see the list of values and choose the required ones for a text parameter in Power BI Service. Here's how you can do it:

1. Open your report in Power BI Service and go to the report page that has the parameter you want to modify.
2. Click on the ellipsis (...) next to the report name and select "Settings" from the dropdown menu.
3. In the "Settings" pane, select "Parameters" from the left-hand menu.
4. Click on the parameter you want to modify and select "Edit" from the dropdown menu.
5. In the "Values" section, select "List of values" and enter the values you want to include in the list, separated by commas.
6. Save the changes to the parameter and refresh the report page to see the updated list of values.

Regarding passing multiple values for the same parameter in Power BI Service, yes, it is possible. Here's how you can do it:

1. In the "Values" section of the parameter settings, select "Allow multiple values" checkbox.
2. Save the changes to the parameter and refresh the report page to see the updated parameter behavior.
3. When running the report, you can select multiple values for the parameter by holding down the "Ctrl" key and clicking on each value you want to include, or by selecting a range of values with the mouse cursor.

You can do all this but you have to invest extra effort in your Power Query to distinguish between single items and lists.

Hey lbendlin,

Thanks for the response, we have tried the example provided. The main purpose of our requirement is when we share our report with end users through a public link, they should be able to pass the desired value and filter the data based on that. However, using parameters only the report owner will have the option to pass the value to parameters. And we have huge data so we cannot load the entire data and later use slicers to filter. Kindly suggest any other option to achieve this.

The example I linked to allows report users to influence the Direct Query queries. Where have you observed the "report owner" restriction? 

BTW, "report owner" is not a thing.
