restrict users from creating app workspace

hi,

we want to retsrict users from creating app workspaces. In the tenant settings-->workspace settings-->

'create workspaces (new workspace experince preview)., we enabled this only for certain groups.  But looks like this only applies to creating new app workspaces in preview only. It is not restricting others users from creating regular workspaces.  Anyone can create workspaces now. How do we restrict users from creating regular app workpaces?

Hi @Anonymous,

You can create the new app workspaces instead of creating regular workspaces. The differences between them:

  • Creating app workspaces won't create corresponding entities in Office 365 like current app workspaces do. (You can still add an Office 365 group to your workspace by assigning it a role).
  • In current app workspaces, you can add only individuals to the members and admin lists. In the new app workspaces, you can add multiple AD security groups, distribution lists, or Office 365 groups to these lists to allow for easier user management.
  • You can create an organizational content pack from a current app workspace. You can't create one from the new app workspaces.
  • You can consume an organizational content pack from a current app workspace. You can’t consume one from the new app workspaces.
  • During the preview some capabilities aren't enabled yet for new app workspaces. See the next section, Other planned new workspace features, for details.

Hi @Anonymous,

Based on my test, You are right, the option to disable creating app workspace (new workspace expericence preview) can only stop users to Creating new ones. As creating app workspaces(preview) won't create corresponding entities in Office 365 like regular app workspaces do. To restrict users from creating the regular workspaces we can only by this way, stopping users to create Office 365 group. Also there is an idea about that, you can vote it up.

Hi @Anonymous,

Does that make sense? If so, kindly mark my answer as a solution to close the case.
